New Web Site Facilitates Quality Program and Evaluation Planning by Dr. Kim Sabo Director InnoNet NYC   InnoNet's WIN!, our innovative new online workstation (http://www.inetwork.org), is changing the way nonprofits and grantmakers develop projects and interact. What InnoNet Does Innovation Network (InnoNet) is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., dedicated to enabling public and nonprofit organizations to better plan, execute, and evaluate their structure, operations, and services. InnoNet provides two services: searches for model programs and effective approaches to social services, and participatory evaluations. Both services are built upon InnoNet's core principles of participation, empowerment, ongoing learning, and continuous improvement. InnoNet conducts research, training, and workshops, and provides consultations and Internet technical assistance. What You Can Do With WIN! InnoNet's Workstation for Innovative Nonprofits (WIN!) Web site enables nonprofits to create top-quality program and evaluation plans, and have them reviewed – at no charge – without leaving their desks. When implemented, these plans result in better services and an improved ability to raise funds and communicate successes to others. The Web site is also beneficial to grantmakers who can refer grantseekers to InnoNet's WIN! to refine their program ideas, develop a cohesive plan with regard to implement a service or program, and determine the results achieved. More There Than You Think "Interactive, easy-to-use and responsive Web sites are usually developed to sell something or increase profits," says Srilatha Batliwala, a Program Officer with The Ford Foundation. "Rarely does one come across a Web site that seeks to strengthen and support small, struggling nonprofits who don't have the resources or infrastructure to invest in technical assistance to build their own capacity. If it weren't such a smart Web site, targeted at smart but over-stretched people, I would describe it as the best 'Organizational Development for Dummies.'" InnoNet's WIN! – through the generosity of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation -- can help nonprofits improve their organizations' effectiveness and break the cycle of crisis management. While the Web site was launched only in the past few weeks, hundreds of nonprofits have already visited InnoNet's WIN! and found it to be invaluable. The Web site goes beyond the standard use of the Web as a bulletin board of information," explains Allison Fine, Executive Director of InnoNet. We have created an Internet program with a question-and-answer format that allows users to create plans directly on the Web. The site contains an enormous amount of content – including practical tips, examples, and data-collection instruments such as surveys – to be downloaded and used immediately. And It's Free "In keeping with our philosophy that the nonprofit sector should be a vanguard for open systems and free exchange of knowledge and information, there are no charges for any of the information or services on the site," says Fine. The site enables users to create the following plans directly online: strategic program plans; evaluation plans; program budgets; grant proposals; and implementation steps and timelines for all plans. Also available is a free review of program evaluation plans. To check out or use this online workstation, visit our Web site at http://www.inetwork.org.
